First Aid Course
12:00pm, Mon 5th May - 4:00pm, Mon 5th May, 08This is an intense course with an assessment based on theory knowledge and practical demonstration in areas such as: medications, hazardous substances, risk management, clinical measurements and legislative guidelines. A person completing this course is qualified as a first-aider in the workplace.
The Full Senior First Aid course aims to give participants the confidence to manage a sick or injured person using the principles of basic first aid. This is a practical course with 60% hands-on component, supported by basic theory without medical jargon. The CPR update course is a nominal 2 hours to update your CPR as this part of the Senior First Aid Certificate must be updated annually. (A person completing the CPR update course is able to carry out Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation).
Topics covered
On completion of the Senior First Aid course participants should be able to identify and manage:
- Heart conditions
- Central nervous system problems
- External and internal bleeding
- A burns casualty
- A casualty with injury to the eye
- A poisoned casualty
- A bitten or stung casualty
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- A casualty with a broken bone, spinal injury, soft tissue injury.
Career prospects
The First Aid Certificate provides a necessary knowledge for Lifeguard, Childcare, Aged Care, Nursing, and a wide variety of sport careers. If your First Aid Certificate has expired after 3 years, you will need to re-do the Senior First Aid Course.
On completion of the Senior First Aid course, you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of first aid and will be issued with a Statement of Attainment.
Delivery Method
All students please note: For classes held on a Saturday, please bring your own lunch as the canteen will be closed.
Entry Requirements
Participant must be 15 years of age and over.
